My
own exploration of yoga began when I was 12 yrs old, watching and
following along with Lillian Folas on the tv in my parent's bedroom. Then
in 1979, I was formally introduced to a regular daily hatha yoga, pranayama
and meditation practice. In 1998, I became a Certified Hatha Yoga Teacher
after graduating from a 3 month intensive in-residence training at The Yoga
College of India in Los Angeles. I feel very blessed to have studied and practiced
with many teachers in a rich variety of styles and traditions over the years.
My own current personal
hatha yoga practice is an intimate self-exploration rooted in my deep
love of, and strong curiosity with, allowing my body's own needs and knowing
to rhythm itself into
spontaneous posturing and exploring the depths of stillness, breath and movement
there. All of this
translates into my teaching. As such, my teaching style is a very eclectic one
as I pull inspiration
from many sources.
Philosophically speaking, I believe that to be fully present and rooted in loving
acceptance of our life
in all its expressions can be challenging. I believe it takes an awake and energetically
open bodymind
to fully embrace our physical existence and to, as one of my favorite teachers
has said: "ecstatically
freefall into the
present moment". I believe that yoga offers us this portal.
